All Spiritual Blessings

images-1Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.

David wrote in Psalm 1 that we are blessed if we do not walk in the counsel of the ungodly, stand in the paths of sinners, and sit in the seat of the scornful.

To be blessed is to have God’s favor. It is derived from the Hebrew root Barak. The story that the three letters of this word tell is the protective hand over you and your house. In the ancient Hebrew alphabet Bet means house and is shaped as an arial view of a tent; Resh means person and looks like the head of a person; Kaf means the palm of the hand and is shaped as a hand.

If you ever lift your hands in prayer, notice the palms. When we are loving on God the palm is pointing toward Him. When we are praying for our needs our palms are pointing toward ourselves. When the Hebrews blessed their children they pointed their palms toward them.

Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 4:14 about the time when the leadership laid their hands on Timothy in prayer. Their palms were toward him to bless him.

Luke recorded in Acts 8:18 that Peter and John laid hands on people and they received the Holy Spirit.

In Numbers 27:23 Moses laid his upon Joshua and inaugurated him.

To be blessed is to have God’s palm pointed toward us and our home.

Paul wrote in Ephesians 1:3 that we are blessed with all spiritual blessings from heaven. I do not believe that it is wrong to asked for God’s blessing upon us or our home. Rather, it is right to understand that all of God’s blessings are ours. That is why Paul chose to use the word “ALL.”

You are blessed coming and you are blessed going out.
