Jewish Feast Days

imagesIt has been said that each of the Feast that the Hebrews celebrated were actual celebrations of when God would have a divine appointment in history with man. Here are two of them.

For the Passover a lamb was bound to the horns of the altar at 9:00 am. It was on the Passover at 9:00 am that Jesus was bound to the cross. The songs that were sung during the binding of the lamb were Psalms 113 – 118. So, while Jesus was being nailed to the cross they were singing in the temple,

  • The Lord is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation…
  • The voice of rejoicing and salvation is in the tents of the righteous…
  • Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go through them, and I will praise the Lord…
  • The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone…
  • Bind the sacrifice with cords to the horns of the altar…

Again this song was sung at 3:00 p.m. for the evening sacrifice and the High Priest would slay the last lamb and cry out, “It is finished.” It was also 3:00 p.m. when Jesus, our High Priest, cried out, “It is finished.”

For the Feast of Pentecost the Holy Spirit fell at 9:00 am at the time of the morning sacrifice. They Hebrews had been meeting before the Lord on this Feast for 1,500 years and it was fulfilled on that very day as Peter defended the actions of the people, “For these men are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.” That was 9:00 a.m.
